Suburban district on the eastern edge — quiet, cheap, close to the airport, and useful mostly for one-night airport stopovers.

Cents sits on a plateau east of the Alzette gorge, between Kirchberg and the airport. It's suburban in the flat, undramatic sense — 1970s houses, a couple of small shopping streets, a Cactus supermarket. There's genuinely not much to do here. The one draw is proximity: bus 29 from Cents to Findel Airport takes 10 minutes, and bus 16 into the old town takes 20. If you have a 6am flight, a €78-€104 room in Cents beats a €173 airport hotel. The plateau itself is flat enough to cycle, though there are no dedicated bike lanes connecting it to the centre.

By 9pm on any night Cents is dead — no restaurants worth crossing town for, no bars, no atmosphere. Choose it as a functional layover or if you're on a strict budget and don't mind a bus into the centre for everything. Skip it for a proper city visit. The one perk beyond the airport is easy access to the walking trails along the Alzette valley toward Sandweiler. Families here are usually visiting relatives nearby rather than sightseeing, and a couple of takeaway spots near Rue Jean Mercatoris cover a quick dinner — nothing more.

Cents suits three kinds of traveller: early flyers, contractors working short stints on Kirchberg's office campuses, and budget travellers happy to commute for everything else. The bus 29 stop on Rue Léon Kauffman also serves Kirchberg in under ten minutes, which makes Cents a workable base for anyone with meetings there rather than in the old town. Weekday mornings bring a trickle of commuters to the bus stops; weekends the streets are close to silent, with only the Cactus supermarket car park showing any real activity.

Prices barely move with season here, unlike hotels in the Grund or Clausen — expect €78-€95 in low season, roughly November to March, and €95-€113 in summer and during EU parliamentary weeks, when demand from Kirchberg spikes. Book a room within five minutes of Rue de Trèves or Rue Léon Kauffman if you want the shortest walk to a bus stop; anything further out on residential cul-de-sacs saves little and costs you time in the morning rush to the airport.

Where to stay in Cents

Two or three basic hotels along Rue Léon Kauffman and Rue Jean Mercatoris. Expect €78-€113 for a plain double. B&Bs on residential streets like Rue Nicolas Ries can be better value. Avoid anything on the N1 (Val des Bons Malades) for road noise. If you're only here for the airport, prioritise walking distance to a bus 29 stop over anything else — the bus is free and runs every 20 minutes. High season, roughly May to September plus EU committee weeks, pushes the same rooms toward €110-€113; low season from November to February can drop them to €78-€85. Breakfast is rarely included, so budget €6-€9 for coffee and a pastry at the bakery on Rue Léon Kauffman. Book near Rue de Trèves for the shortest walk to both the bus stop and the valley footpath.

Getting around & the essentials

Cents plateau to Neudorf

From Rue de Trèves, take the marked footpath into the Alzette woods, descending gradually to Neudorf village along the river. Return via Rue de Neudorf and Rue Jean Mercatoris, climbing back up to the plateau. About one hour with the climb, best in dry weather — the descent can be slippery. The climb back is the harder half, gaining roughly 80 metres over the last kilometre, so pace yourself if you're carrying luggage back for a flight.

Bus 29 to Findel Airport in 10 minutes, free. Bus 16 to Hamilius (old town) in 20 minutes, free. No tram. From Gare Centrale, take tram T1 to Kirchberg then bus 29 — about 35 minutes total. Inside Cents you walk, but the district is spread out and hilly at the edges — expect 15-20 minute walks to buses if you're not near a main road. All public transport in Luxembourg, buses and tram included, has been free since 2020. From the airport arrivals hall, bus 29 stops directly outside and runs roughly every 15-20 minutes on weekdays, less often late at night. A taxi from the airport costs around €15-€20 for the same ten-minute journey after buses stop running.
