Who it suits
Kirchberg is the modern half of Luxembourg City — glass towers housing the European Court of Justice, the European Investment Bank, Mudam contemporary art museum and the Philharmonie concert hall. It suits business travellers with meetings on the plateau, culture-focused visitors wanting Mudam and the Philharmonie on their doorstep, and anyone attending events at Luxexpo. Frequent flyers appreciate the direct bus 16 to Findel airport (10 minutes).
It doesn’t suit anyone chasing old-town atmosphere. Streets empty by 8pm outside the shopping mall zone, and dinner options skew corporate. Families rarely find it charming.
Price and reach
Chains dominate: Sofitel Le Grand Ducal, Meliá, Novotel and DoubleTree by Hilton. Weekday rates run 170-240 EUR, but weekends and August drop to 110-150 EUR — often cheaper than Gare. Book weekends here if budget matters.
The tram runs the length of Avenue John F Kennedy every 4-6 minutes, reaching Hamilius (Ville Haute) in 12-15 minutes and Gare Centrale in 22. Walkable on the plateau: Mudam, Fort Thüngen, the Philharmonie, Coque swimming pool and gym, and Auchan shopping centre.
