Who it suits
Dudelange sits in the far south of the country, 5 km from the French border. It's compact, walkable, and home to the Centre National de l’Audiovisuel (CNA) and the Waassertuerm+Pomhouse — a converted water tower running excellent photography exhibitions. It suits culture visitors focused on photography and film, travellers driving in from France, and anyone wanting a real Luxembourg town without much tourism.
It doesn’t suit anyone whose main goal is Luxembourg City sights. The train to the capital takes 25 minutes but leaves you 40 minutes of transit per day.
Price and access
The Cocoon Hotel and a couple of smaller hotels sit at 90-140 EUR. Cheaper than the capital, more comfortable than a hostel.
Walkable: the CNA photography centre, the Waassertuerm+Pomhouse, the Musée Municipal, Parc Le’h with a small zoo, and the Ellergronn nature reserve trailhead. The train station is central; trains run every 30 minutes to Luxembourg City.
