The three markets
Wënter Wonder splits across Place d\'Armes (the compact chalet market with mulled wine and Gromperekichelcher potato pancakes, €4 a plate), Place de la Constitution (the Ferris wheel and rides, best for kids and the panoramic Pétrusse view), and Place Guillaume II (the biggest food court, live music evenings). All are within a 5-minute walk of each other.
How locals do it
Skip weekend afternoons — the market fills with day-trippers bussed in from Brussels and Trier. Come Tuesday to Thursday evening after 6pm: lights are on, choir schedules run at Place Guillaume II, mulled wine (Glühwäin, €4) is at its best. The Ferris wheel is €7 and worth it for the cliff view at dusk. Try Träipen (blood sausage with apple sauce, €6) — the market\'s best food.
Questions, answered
Do I need to book a hotel far ahead?
Yes — weekends sell out by October. Mid-week December stays are still bookable in November.
Are there markets outside the capital?
Vianden runs a small castle-lit market three weekends in December — worth the train ride.
Doing good is the business: every booking through Stay Luxembourg funds one verified tonne of carbon removal — same room, same price, no markup.
